Matthew Carney

Hey, I’m Matthew. I’m a counselor because I want to help people live the lives want to live. There are countless conflicting forces telling us what we should be, or what we need to be. But, what do we want to be? Amongst waves of responsibilities, expectations, crises, and struggles, I believe that our own voices can get lost in the noise. I want to help you find and apply it to your life in a way that works. In short, I want you to be able to enjoy your life.

I earned my master’s in clinical mental health counseling from Bluefield University in 2024. My background work is in adolescent behavioral health. Since becoming a counselor, I’ve worked with children in elementary schools and adults in the clinical setting. My work has an existential focus – I often think about what clients want from their lives, and what’s getting in their way. I use evidence-based practices such as ACT and DBT to help clients accept, experience, and move through emotion.

I want my office to be a place where you can get away from the noise for a while. A place where you can let your real self out without being judged. Counseling is great for self-discovery, exceptional growth, and long-awaited change. I believe every person is capable of those things, and it’s my job to create a space where they can happen. Life is a journey. I’d love to help make yours a little bit easier.
